GRUMPY FLAKES

Well, it seems to be one of those days when Pornowood has got it’s collective dander up as seen by two members of the industry having a bit of a bad day.

The first is my friend Tre Xavier www.tre-x.com who responded to a call by porn star and blogger Mason Wyler to become a ‘citizen’ of Wyler’s “Nation” website. Xavier has been writing in his own online blog for the past couple years and has expanded his repertoire to include writing other blogs too following the tradition that has been more or less successful for many porn stars along the way (including yours truly) and is, at least, less obtrusive and embarrassing than the hopefully dying out trend of porn stars taking up the pop star mantle and trying that as the second career.

Anyway, Tre wrote his initial entry and Wyler posted it and then mysteriously this morning it was removed. Tre discovered this as he went to discover if anyone had made comments (dude I feel your pain in that!). Now we’re all hoping that this is easily explained by a little internet “whoopsie” although Tre announced in his somewhat daily newsletter,  that he had written a polite letter to inquire what had happened but asked us, his friends and colleagues “I wonder what's at play here? Is there some kind of mental instablility, or is he just that much of a jerk? Your thoughts?”

Meanwhile, across the country, Raging Stallion founder Chris Ward is fielding all sorts of comments (about half negative, half positive) about the trailer for his new flick TO THE LAST MAN in which there’s depictions of violence - a throat slashing and apparently a violent rape. True to the Raging Stallion tradition, their annual ‘big picture’ is creating controversy (if it’s October, it’s time for people to be talking about Raging Stallion). The trailer is up on his blog www.chriswardblog.com although I wasn’t’ able to access it (a prompt came up saying that the video had been removed which is weird because I watch You Tube all the time at home and that never happens).

In any event, the basic controversy has spilled into the old argument between “this is porn and I just wanna see guys have sex” and “this is the future of porn, it can and will be more like the content of an independent movie”. I can certainly see both sides.

On one hand, I find the story the most interesting thing about a lot of porn but on the other hand, I cringe when porn studios try to do something that’s out of their league. Usually this is special effects or a script that needs actors with actual acting talent.

Still, I applaud filmmakers like Ward who do things that are envelope pushing and that attempt to redefine the genre. Yes, he’s right, we don’t need more fucknsuck movies, there are enough of those so doing something different can only be good for the industry. But I wonder if this energy and money could have been poured into a PARTING GLANCES or SHORTBUS type of movie. Will gay porn ever achieve that height?

On a sort of side note and on the subject of violence, I wonder if, like unsafe sex, eroticizing rape is such a great idea. To be sure there are people who already think that it’s ‘hot’ while those that have been victimized by it know it to be a brutally humiliating event that divides their lives into ‘before the rape’ and ‘after the rape’.

It’s one of those things that porn industry folks often pooh pooh saying “oh don’t take it so seriously” when that’s really code for “shut up”.

Fortunately Ward has mentioned that he’s offering two versions of the flick, one without the extreme violence which is good. I can’t watch network television when it’s so bloody and violent and it’s the absolute last thing I want to see when I’m trying to beat off.

CLIMBING INTO THE COCKPIT

And speaking of Eduardo, last night I popped in a flick that I’ve been holding on to for a very long time.

Readers of my old Journal and Porn Star Confidential might remember that the day after 9/11/01 I received a video from Catalina called COCKPIT with the unfortunate tag line “Everybody’s going down!” Well, it was one of those bad timing things that couldn’t have been avoided. Of course the flicks had been mailed out on Monday September 10th and showed up in reviewers post boxes on the 12th.  It was kind of a joke at the time but I have to admit it was a little hard to find anything erotic about it at the time.

So I sat on it and sat on it and a sequel came out. I moved and time passed. Recently both flicks were put on the same DVD and offered up by Channel 1 Releasing who, a year or two ago, bought up the Catalina catalog and has been re-releasing them systematically.

So I figured seven years had passed and it was time to put it in the dvd player and find out if it was worth the wait.

Well, from a sheer nostalgia point of view, definitely. Seeing Michael Brandon at the start of his celebrated career, seeing Caesar without all the hulking muscles, seeing colleagues Erik Michaels, Tuck Johnson and one of my favorite stars my man Steve Rambo who is rugged sexy and whose million watt smile was always a welcome sight whenever I’d catch up with him.

But aside from that, it’s a very sexy fun filled romp filled with some great action and not to be missed campy moments featuring some of the industry’s behind the scenes talent in small speaking roles as airplane passengers. Steve Rambo is at his charming best in this flick and looks mighty gorgeous in his pilot’s uniform, his smile, smirk at it’s full potency as he saddles up to chow down on Mike Radcliffe’s cock and even pulls off crawling naked through the length of the plane as luggage tumbles and chaos ensues. It’s laugh out loud funny, sexy and kind of tension-filled all at the same time. And it ends in a pretty big cliffhanger (the plane is doing down!) which is a kind of unheard of but is effective here.

It’s sequel, COCKPIT 2 is a little more violent (a couple stabbings) as the crash survivors encounter a hillbilly family who terrorize them. It’s a little like LOST – pretty people in a plane crash encounter strange things while trying to survive. Hmmm Anyway, the sequel features an outstanding over the top uncredited performance by Sharon Kane as the hillbilly mom with the craziest pigtails ever committed to a porn flick. The sex is as good as the original although relying a little more on a narrative than the first one did. It’s still a decent watch though.

And now you can watch both for a super low price – the DVD is on sale through Channel 1 (click on the link) for a mere $40 or a $12.95 if you wanna watch it online through Channel 1’s on demand program (and it’s still cheaper, $9.95 if you’re a Channel 1 member).

It's a great fantasy - guys devoting themselves this elite group where you must have public sex (in a place where you might lose your job or public reputation) once a year. Yikes, well so many questions … let’s try to take this one apart piece by piece.

First off, I’m a total homo too. I like the butt sex and making out with men and the cock sucking.

However, there was a time when I first got involved in porn that I was having recurring fantasies involving women especially porn star Sharon Kane. It helped that I had met Kane and her sexual energy over pretty much everyone is overpowering, you know, one of those times when you know you’re getting aroused by something that you didn’t know you liked. I don’t know of any bear bisexual porn but I don’t doubt that it’s out there; these days EVERYTHING is out there.

WEEKEND UPDATE

So I promised a little more of a recap of Wednesday night's Porno Bingo 'later this week' and whoops it if didn't become several days later. My bad. Between the pictures and the recap I did though, I think I covered it although it was pretty funny that one of the CHEER volunteers decided to sell the markers with which we mark the Bingo cards. Usually we give them out and just get them back at the end of the night (well, mostly) and usually when something like this would happen I would lose my mind but it must have been the vodka/ginger ale I was enjoying or the lovliness of Arpad or Gusty's good humor, but I just laughed it off. The volunteer offered to buy us some new ones but we'll see... but it was funny for me to watch him sell a marker to my boyfriend, especially when the boyfriend who is the one who bought them for the event in the first place. His expression was priceless as he smiled and went 'whaaaa?" There ARE some things money can't buy. :)

I spent the remainder of the week cooking up Bingo nights for December and on into 2009. I'm looking into getting someone to donate a bunch of hot porn titles to give out in exchange for 'gently used' winter coats or toys for tots. More in this space as I explore it further but stay tuned.

Saturday night I MCed Dance 208's annual Halloween contest. I've been a judge a couple times and it's always a litle chaotic and I think after MCing I'm concluding it's just the nature of the beast as last night was no exception to the chaos theory of this particular contest. There were some fun costumes, some hot guys and great dance music by DJ Johnny Dynell.

The Imperial Court judged and announced that their annual "Night of a Thousand Gowns" will take place here in New York on Saturday March 21st. I suspect that that's also the night of the annual Black Party. Last year was the first time the two events synced up and I think it's a good match although there's not too much cross over crowd (some but not tons). But it becomes a big night for gay New Yorkers to pivot, turn and walk down the runway of several different stages.

I wore a fireman's costume which apparently looked authentic since several people thought it was real. Just goes to show what you can get at a good costume shop (and pretty damn affordable too). Naturally there were those who asked to see my hose and offered to light my fire .. har har but I guess I asked for it. It did make me think of the movie, HOT FIREMEN (Click on Centaur Films to get the flick) that I was in way back when and someone even brought it up asking about it. Just goes to show you that good porn never dies, it just gets reissued in a different format. :)

 

The winner of the contest was a cool pair who came as "Carrie" and "Tommy".All night long "Carrie" wandered around saying things like "my mother told me that I couldn't come to the dance but I did anyway" with a kind of glazed glare.

 

My personal favorite wavered between them and a guy who dressed up as Velma from Scooby Doo. All he had to do was say "Jinkies!" and I was in his court.

From what I can tell by watching it, Raging Stallion’s THE FIFTH FLOOR is pretty much just an excuse to get a bunch of hot guys (such as exclusives Roman Ragazzi and my new wet dream Logan McCree who’s cock sucking skills are beyond compare to anyone in the business) to have sex in and around stairwells and the tops of buildings and that sort of thing. Fives seem to be in vogue this week as Hot House released TRUNKS 5. It’s the latest of a very popular series featuring super attractive men having sex in or around a pool.
