It was a first for us: a specifically 'all queer" (well mostly anyway) night of music featuring Kris Landherr, JC Faustman from Nekked and J. Michael Reeds and his team of boys from his cabaret show, WEST (now playing at the Laurie Beechman Theatre here in New York, check J. Michael's website for schedule).
I was surprised that the 20something generation no longer uses (or has even heard of) the term "queer" .. I do feel very old after being a 20something myself during the days of Queer Nation and "I'm Queer Get Used To It". But times passes and we're just 'gay' again. I need a scorecard. :)
Anyway, our beneficiary was the Queens Pride House and they were generous to fill in at the last minute for a beneficiary that dropped out unexpectedly a couple weeks before the event. But as someone who came out in his 20s and is indebted to a community center in London for making the process easier, I am infinitely supportive of these types of organizations.
It was especially wonderful to meet the President of the Board of Directors at Queens Pride House, Pauline Park, who shares some common history with me as we both come from Wisconsin and we both spent time studying during college in London. You can actually read quite abit more about Pauline by clicking here. And thanks to Edge who stopped by and did a piece on QPH and mentioned the Bingo show and mentioned us (always grateful for that guys!).
Pauline and the Queens Pride House will be back on Wednesday December 15th for another night of Bingo at the Will Clark Show with some special guests I'll announce closer to the date. But before that, on November 10th, we'll be raising funds for the Bronx Community Center (more on that in the coming weeks too).
AB was still out with his show at the time and so our Soaps/Project Achieve/Shouldless pal Damon took some photos for us of our performers and patrons... like we say in Wisconsin, a good time was had by all!
