About NJ Buddies

New Jersey Buddies (NJB), a non-profit, community-based organization, is a resource center offering a network of support for people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.

Since 1985, NJB has established itself as the foremost resource center serving Bergen and Passaic Counties. Services include case management, substance abuse treatment and counseling, housing assistance, dental services, support groups, transportation, and a food bank.

NJB is a substance abuse facility providing outpatient/intensive outpatient services licensed by NJ Department of Human Services, Division of Addiction Services.

NJB is supported with federal grants from the Ryan White Care Act and HOPWA (Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS). Additional funding is also provided through private foundations, fundraising efforts, and generous contributions from the community at large.

About Colleen Zenk 

Actress Colleen Zenk is best known to millions of fans as Barbara Ryan on the iconic daytime drama As the World Turns, a role she played from 1978 until the show went off the air in 2010. Her portrayal earned her Emmy Award nominations in 2002 (Outstanding Lead Actress) and 2001 (Outstanding Supporting Actress).

She is currently in rehearsals for a one woman show she developed to premiere in the Spring/Summer of 2011, which incorporates her lifelong career as an actress -- including three decades as a daytime star, her very public battle as an Oral Cancer survivor, her chaotic (and favorite) role as a divorced mother to blended family of six children, and a great deal of grace, humor, music, tears and laughter.

During her 32 years on the show she continued to pursue her love for musical theatre and made her Broadway debut as Rosie in Bring Back Birdie, opposite Chita Rivera and Donald O'Connor, and her film debut in John Huston's adaptation of the Broadway musical Annie.

Zenk toured extensively with the Army Special Services in Europe as well as in national tours in productions that included starring roles in They're Playing Our Song, Where's Charley, Can Can, The Star-Spangled Girl, and Barefoot in the Park.

Throughout her career she has devoted a great deal of time volunteering for charities including the Easter Seals Telethon, The March of Dimes (named “Young Mother of the Year” in 1984), and several non-profit organizations close to her heart in Connecticut, where she resides.

The public service organization, however, that is closest to her personally, is the Oral Cancer Foundation.  Diagnosed with Oral Cancer in 2007, Zenk’s world was turned upside down.  Through her courageous battle and aggressive treatments, including brutal multiple surgeries, Zenk continued to work on As the World Turns, and the show incorporated her illness into a memorable story line.  The on-camera telling of Barbara’s oral cancer, helped respond to the public concern of millions of viewers who had detected something was not right with Zenk vocally on the air, as the treatments had impacted her tongue and mouth at that time.

She teamed with the Oral Cancer Foundation to bring awareness to a disease that went under the radar for far too long.  Her work included public service announcements, national broadcast interviews, and a series of lectures on behalf of Yale-New Haven Hospital and the Smilow Cancer Hospital. Her cancer recurred in 2008, with another scare in 2010. Today Zenk is cancer-free.

Zenk’s top priority and favorite role of all is being the mother to a blended family of six children -- four girls and two boys ranging in ages 17 to 30. This close-knit support system sustained her in every possible way during the worst of times. The family also includes two Shetland Sheepdogs and a Fife Canary, two Lineolated Parakeets, and a Rose-Breasted Cockatoo named Sydney.

Zenk is an avid knitter and can often be seen in her own handmade creations. She also enjoys gardening, antiquing, and interior decorating.

A feast of flesh and a touchstone of what's considered eroticly charged at this point in queer history. The follow up book BRUTAL TRUTH is more of the same damaged machismo and is sure to sell out fast.

It's going to be a night that we might call West Village Story - and instead of Sharks and Jets, we have soap fans and leather men and women... and in addition to As The World Turns star Colleen Zenk and Mr. NJ Leather Robert Vitale AND the New Jersey boys of Leather we'll have tickets up for auction for the Saint at Large's Bimbo Jones/Freemasons May Day (that's May 1st btw) dance party at Amnesia and Weekend Passes for the International Mr. Leather festivities in Chicago (that would be over Memorial Day weekend, more on this in upcoming days btw) but just minutes ago (relatively speaking) I've been offered two tickets to the May 4th Kylie Minogue concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom courtesy of our new friend Carlos Melia.

DJ Randy Bettis to Open for Kylie Minogue on Monday May 2nd NYC

We should all be so lucky (lucky lucky lucky) to one of the three DJs hired to open for Aussie superstar Kylie Minogue but on Monday May 2nd at the Hammerstein Ballroom that honor goes to none other than former Bad Boys on the Hudson DJ Randy Bettis!

Randy spins bright cheery music that adrenalizes you to the core and makes the party come to life. At least that's been my experience of the Bettis man. :)

While I'm not able to go (pinchin' some pennies to get a new harness for my trip to Chicago for IML) I'm sure that if YOU want to go, there are still (remarkably) tickets available. Click here to go and check out availability.

Mama Told Me Not to Play With Dolls - But In This Case She Was Wrong! **updated**

Time has fuzzed over how it happened that, as a kid, I had one action figure but clothes for Captain Kirk and Captain Marvel. Interesting how they're both military, huh and interesting too that I didn't think anything of undressing and dressing each of them at various times. If that's not foreshadowing about my big gay life as an adult, I don't know what is. :)

But now, thanks to the Tom of Finland guys (and specifically sculptor Norm Lloyd), you can put away that sad excuse for an 'adult action figure' aka Billy, and get instead their newest erotic release - the Rebel action figure which stands 13 inches high (so size queens will be happy) and comes with three interchangable penis' (yes yes yes I know ... but it's almost too easy, you know?). The figure has the Tom bod, the cocky smile and leather clothes. Yum.

It's a limited edition and so if you want the world's hottest man staring at you all night long, best to purchase now.

BTW I wanted to mention here something that I think is interesting - I've been out and having gay sex for a long long long time. I've always felt like kind of a super nerd because I believe that men can be sexual beings/pigs/whatever and still be kind and caring to each other and smile and have a great time.

Kind and caring things, like you know, like telling each other your sero status before playing or helping someone on the dance floor who has done one too many party drugs and needs someone to lend them a hand.

It's sad (and shocking, even to me now, this many years into my adult life - I 'should' be used to it by now, right?) to report that I have seen many people turn a blind eye to someone in need or someone tell me that they didn't tell someone they were fucking that they were positive because 'they didn't ask', which is, by the way, one of the most cowardly, weakest things a man can do.

And we've all seen guys who just seem to approach having sex as a grim and depressing thing they have to check off their 'to do' list.

When I was doing porn, good God, people were so drab and grim about it. I always had fun. Always. Even when my co-star was a dud (and there were a few of those) and even when I realized that I was on my own (ie I was with a straight guy and he wasn't going to lend a hand or kiss or anything.. ok well, he was straight identified.. but that's a whole other  conversation).

Anyway, I bring this up because on the Tom page, artist Lloyd says:

"The images and ideas floating around in the art world are like elements of a surrealist dream to me. Tom's dream-like world of "perfect" men who are not only great and proud slabs of beef that are ready to enjoy themselves, in any way, at any moment - but are also good natured and caring - has to be a turn on for anyone."

And one of the things that I can always say about the Tom of Finland folks, the guys in charge of the legacy is that they know how to be sexual, know how to have fun and are definitely caring about others.

So the next time you're out and about and think that 'being a man', specifically a 'Tom of Finland man' means being a mean-ass dick, think again.
