End of the Summer Gratitude & New Music from Leona Lewis - "Collide"

As we rush to the end of the summer, it's worth noting that while I have faced some incredible challenges over the past three months, I've also had tremendous successes particularly in the awesome amount of money we raised at Bingo and at the Bad Boys cruise this summer.

But those of you who make comments on Facebook will never truly know how much your friendship and sometimes daily conversation helped me through this time even if you didn't know that you were helping me. I count that as one of the biggest successes of the entire summer. I hope that I can be the kind of friend that you've been to me when you need it.

And, if I'm not able to be there for you in the same way, I hope that at least my blog provides you with some entertainment for a few minutes of every day - whether it be pics from Bingo, a new music video or ranting about crazy employers who bring people in for an interview when they don't have the qualifications they're looking for!  LOL :)

Anyway, this is the newest from Leona Lewis and coincidentally it's got the right tone/feel/mood that I'm in today - upbeat and happy. It was a beautiful day to be alive here in New York City and after a 60 block walk and an empanada and a Coke from a truck in Riverside Park, I feel awesome. And hey, I had a great chest workout yesterday and I am perhaps a little too excited over the results today. <blush>

Nate Karlton at NORTHERN Decadence

Sure, I'm used to New Orleans being the center of the universe over Labor Day weekend for Southern Decadence, but there's a new party gunning for dominance - Minneapolis' new Northern Decadence party, a big block party thrown by the hot midwest leathermen of the Eagle/Bolt Bar! I don't know anything about it other than COLT Man Nate Karlton is appearing and emceeing an underwear contest (which is, you know, enough of a reason to schlep to the twin cities in my opinion).

What's pretty awesome about the Minneapolis bar that celebrates it's 13th anniversary this weekend, is that they routinely have a leather dress code - and it's enforced. Jeepers guys, how many so called leather bars in America do THAT? (Not many and none in NYC)

 

 

Just Because It's Hot Guy Tuesday, COLT's Leatherman Calendar

Good morning peeps! So, yesterday I had a job interview that totally bummed me out. It had been rescheduled twice so I'd been anticipating this for some time.... but I was really excited about it. But as sometimes happens with these things, I arrived with resume in tow and the executive director of the org said that he'd seen it but would take another copy. Then he proceeded to observe that I have "a lot of event planning experience".

The conversation in my mind was - 'yeah isn't that why I'm here?"

He said that the job entailed grant writing and then went on a ten minute monologue why grant money was more important to non-profits than event fundraising money.... all of which I knew and could have said better than he did (although I don't necessarily agree that its 'better'.. I think that there are far greater benefits from throwing an event than just the money raised, but that's another blog post). I put forth (naturally) that I'm pretty smart and could pick up grant writing if they were excited about my other experience. He simply said that they worked with an events management company and so they didn't need someone with my skills.

I kept wondering - didn't he look at my resume when calling me in? I mean, he had my phone number and email address... and so it's weird that I didn't get automatically removed from consideration.

For those of us in the New Economy - it's especially weird (and frustrating) getting called in for jobs that we're not qualified for and not getting called in for the jobs that we are.

Anyway, it turned out to be a bust and I was bummed but looked great in my suit so there is that. <wink> And of course I wrote down the name of the events company that they work with and will be sending my resume to them today just as a way to introduce myself and network. Hey, you never know, right?

To put myself in a better mood and to rouse myself out of my bed stupor, I decided that even though I'd promoted the 2012 COLT calendar already over the weekend, that I would post this pic of one of the other covers from the COLT calendar collection. It makes me think of that Dr. Seuss book, Hop on Pop. :)

Candy Samples Scandal

It's Monday and there was no Rainpocalypse, no Hurrigeddon and barely a ripple felt in New York City at least. Everyone else on the east coast (especially in North Carolina and Vermont) today is cursing Irene for making their lives miserable and New Yorkers are laughing at her for not making them miserable enough. Such is life in the big apple.

Anyway, if you're grinding your teeth wondering what you're going to do with jugs of Poland Spring and enough batteries to power every vibrator in every porn movie in the San Fernando Valley, relax, as I have a little video, drag queen Candy Samples.

The song will launch in New Orleans at Southern Decadence this Sunday September 4th at MIchael's on the Park which will be followed up by an apperance on The Will Clark Show on Wednesday September 21st (in a night that will benefit the Gay Football League). Gusty Wind Sunday: "It's Raining MEN"

Hurricane Irene should be reaching Manhattan in a few hours, and well, I'm in the middle of it. HooRAY. I could have been at Burning Man or you know somewhere where there wasn't a simultaneous hurricane AND tornado. Apparently this is our punishment for same sex marriage in New York state (I'm sure by now SOMEone has said it!). Sigh.

I'm not sure which is worse, the storm itself or the stupidity it creates. My favorite moment from the storm so far was when one official, who was far more patient than I would have been, reminded people that cooking on your bar b q grill indoors is a bad idea. Why people don't know how stupid that is I don't know. But there you go. Then there are the 30 people who stayed on Fire Island during this. I can't even begin to express how unimaginably stupid that is. Then there are the people streaking on the news so I guess we, the city of New York, are flying our freak flag super high this weekend. :) I feel the most sorry for all those news reporters stuck in the middle of pouring, blowing rain who are doing their best to look breezy and nonchalant despite clearly being really cold, really wet and really pissed that they have to be out in the middle of the End of the World.

Anyway, on a lighter note, because you know you just have to dance in the middle of unimaginable terror - it's the only way to get through it - here's the Weather Girls singing "It's Raining Men". It is the only thing that will quell my own crazy terror when the breadth of the storm is now 600 miles and reaches, oh yah, almost to FUCKING OHIO!!!

Boys, girls, I am going to bed soon and I will catch you all on the other side of the Rainpocalypse. Er, Hurrigeddon, Uhm HurriEricaKane, Hurrican't.... whatevs!

Jake Steels Hearts (and Raises Big Bux) at The Will Clark Show Aug 3rd!

So, you know, what better to do on a Saturday night when you're awaiting the end of the world than to catch up on posting pics from the Will Clark Show feat. P*rno Bingo! And what better way to keep your attention focused on teh internets and away from the hysteria of the Storm of the Century is to post pics of hottie Jake Steel. I know, it's madness for me to think that you like shirtless pics, but after listening to endless weather reports, I feel as though I've gone a bit nutty.

Anyway, on Wednesday August 3rd, Lucas Entertainment model Jake Steel and Billboard recording artist Jenna Drey  joined us for a hot time to raise $ for Braking the Cycle. Enjoy the pics... there are some great shirtless Jake pics.. adorable!
