It's Fun Til Someone Loses An Eye

Tonight I spent the evening walking in the 39th Annual NYC Halloween Parade after attending the wedding of my friends Yolanda and Glen in Soho. Will post some pics and thoughts about that tomorrow but for now, know that tonight was one of the most incredible nights of my life - and easily one of the best Halloween's ever. Yeah. It was that good. Meanwhile, I saw this on my way out of the parade route and thought "you know, it's all fun and games until someone loses an eye". Sleep tight everyone and more on Tuesday November 1st.

Happy Halloween Peeps! Getting Felt Up - Trick or Treat? You Decide

The almost kinda sorta fabulous life of living in New York means that one gets the opportunity to party hop ending up at a Saturday night Halloween party cavorting with a couple hundred hot gay men ranging in age from their late 20s through their early 60s all whom have spared no time or expense to put together an awesome costume to flirt and get drunk in.

You don't know what you're missing if you pass up the opportunity to dress up - in the rest of the country, this might be a holiday for kids, but here in New York, this is a holiday designed solely for adults (to the point where even trick or treating took place over a week ago in my neighborhood - clearly the adults just wanted to get it out of the way early so they could par-tay tonight!).

My favorite costume at the big party was the friend who dressed as the Tin Man - but didn't quite think about how to maneuver through narrow hallways with his boxy costume. It (and he) was so adorable however that one couldn't help but be sweet on him. Smoooch.

I wanted to be sweet on the guy who dressed in football gear. Now that would have been one big Halloween TREAT (and, come to think of it, a TRICK as well). :)

The party was a huge success though because in addition to hob knobbing with sexy guys (make that, sexy drunk guys) I got felt up not once but twice. And I was only there like a half hour. That's got to be a land speed record! LOL

Between this and a couple of other parties plus seeing a couple of shows-- including the Tennessee Williams play at La Mama (more on this tomorrow but it's awesome btw), this has been a pretty good holiday weekend (so far, technically it's not the weekend anymore but it's Halloween, so it's like an extra Sunday this year) despite the snowmageddon on Sunday (which has btw all but disapeered).

Tonight here in the city is the annual big Halloween Parade and I'll be down in the middle of it all with friends at a same sex wedding in Soho and then doing whatever comes next when you have a flask of boubon tucked in your coat.  Just sayin. :)

 

Save the Date- November 1st - Fake Jan Back With a Vengeance #fakejan

Whether you experienced first hand the horror show that was the Brady Bunch musical variety show or if you've just managed to catch it on You Tube, watching through your fingers wondering "what were they thinking?", you know all about Geri Reischl who replaced Eve Plumb as Jan on the show.

Plumb, equally famous for her "Marsha Marsha Marsha" rant and her lie about boyfriend George Glass (no not the porn star), wisely stayed far far away from this iteration of the popular show. Thankfully Geri was on hand to make the magic happen and forever became known as Fake Jan.

I met Fake Jan about a year and a half ago at the book signing for Alison Arngrim's autobiography and have dropped her notes every so often trying to get her to appear at bingo. No response as of yet but I'm tenacious (I am in fact thisclose to signing up a New York celeb who said she hated bingo and would never appear on my show. The take away point- when trying to contact celebs: stay upbeat, stay in contact/don't give up and oh yeah, find incriminating photos to lord over them).

Anyway Fake Jan will be performing her first solo show this Tuesday night November 1st at the Laurie Beechman and you can get tickets here. She'll sing cuts from her new cd 1200 RIVERSIDE, talk about being a child actor and take questions from the audience.

 

The Drag Net: Exclusive Lady Bunny Interview #ladybunny

You know her, you love her, the site of her stained underpants make you laugh, not hurl. She's friends with New Yorkers as disparate as Sex and the City/Ugly Betty designer Patricia Fields and super big Jonah Falcon.. and everyone in between.

She's had a life that most would only dream of having and she's still having the time of her life - and there's no sign of slowing -- and best of all she's on fire with a Tuesday night weekly show at Escuelita and a recent performance trip to Brazil!

She's Lady Bunny and there is no one like her (for better or worse!)

She's one of the New Yorkers I admire the most because she started with nothing and worked her way up the ladder with hard work, innovative ideas, pluck and spunk (both the kind you do and do not like) and am honored to be able to run this awesome interview on my blog (even if blogs are "so 2008" LOL)

How the Drag Net interviews work is that I ask each of the subjects the same questions... and here are Lady Bunny answers - perfect for a Sunday morning!

A quick aside - I HIGHLY recommend getting to Escuelita early - far ahead of the 8pm start time to guarantee getting a seat .. the seating there is fucked up royally and I literally had to fight with one queen to have a place to sit down (I offered his face since it was clearly not being used but he didn't cotton to the idea). And although you have to buy a drink ticket to get in, bring a flask - they've only hired one bartender and girl, he's hot but even he can't service a couple hundred queens in short order!! LOL

1. State your official drag name.

Lady Bunny.
 
2. What do others call you behind your back?

Sir.
 
3. Who’s your best drag friend? (someone who would throw a rival down in the mud if they talked trash about you)

I'd say Miss Guy, who deejays around town and is in a rock band called the Toilet Boys. But truthfully, most of my best friends are sisters of the cloth.
 
4. What made you first do drag?

I experimented with it throughout my childhood and always wore long hair as a kid. When I finally met some queens in a gay bar, I just automatically gravitated to them like a zombie. In Chattanooga, Tennessee there weren't many women wearing sequins, wigs and lashes and I was mesmerized. Love my mom to death, but she was no glamourpuss!

5. Please list any awards, titles, commendations or notches that you’ve earned (real or imagined)

You know, I've received a quite a few in my time. But I'm really not one to focus on them. Since I despise America's obsession with competition, I prefer to think that people can each be great yet different without the need for a #1 or a winner. And as far as honors from charities, etc, I'm doing that work because I believe in the cause, not because I'm after some award. The only honor I need is a paycheck--that means I'm doing my job right. And I doubt if my landlord would accept a trophy or plaque as payment. Take away my gay card, but I even hate the Oscars. I don't need any committee telling me which movie is good because I have a brain of my own!
 
6. Where can your fans find you (both online and off)? (ie list website and regular club appearance or where you’re appearing next)

I'm performing my 1st 1 wo-man show in 10 years Tuesdays 8PM at La Escuelita. It's called That Ain't No Lady! and it's a raunchy, demented comedy revue with song parodies galore, a tribute to Amy Winehouse and jokes out the wazoo. Due to great crowd response, we've extended the run indefinitely and will even add Xmas material and keep it going through the holidays if the demand is there. I also dj at a variety of events but the most regular one in NYC is at Club 57 on Saturdays when I'm in town.

Ladybunny.net is my website where you can check out my blog--the closest thing to an appearance calendar--and also browse through ancient, heavily air-brushed photos and buy my comedy dvd. But blogs are so 2008! They can also "like" Lady Bunny Forever on facebook.
 
7. So you've just met a nice guy you're dating. How and when does proper etiquette dictate you come out to him about your drag persona?

I really wouldn't date anyone who I thought might have a problem with my occupation. I'm more of a sex date type than relationship-oriented anyway. I typically introduce myself as Bunny and my apartment is crammed full of wigs, gowns and jewelry so it's not a big secret! I do know gay men who tell me that their boyfriends only allow them to do drag on Hallowe'en or Night of A Thousand Gowns. I guess relationships are about compromise--which is probably why I don't have one. But I would never want anyone who didn't like the real me. No man is worth hiding your true self for. I am going to spend a lot of time on the phone saying things like "Is my wig ready?" so if overhearing that turns you off, see ya!

8. For those up-and-coming goslings, any words of wisdom? What was the worst stupidest mistake you made when you first started out doing drag that you could save some of the newbies from repeating?

No one could make my mistake. I am sort of a tomboy with drag--I can't style wigs, sew, or even put on make-up that well. Especially at first! Even though I was slimmer then, my looks in my 20s were so booger that I don't usually like seeing the older pics. I was broke and clueless! Some queens just have a knack for drag--I wasn't one of those. It took me decades to learn and many would say that I still don't have it right!

As far as advice I'd say try to do something unique. No one is going to fly you to another city id they already have 10 queens there lip-synching to Rihanna.
 
9. How much do you spend a year on nylons?

A fortune! Since I don't have a waist, neck or ass, I showcase my legs a lot and those hose are $15 bucks a pair. So I'm guessing $1000 per year?
 
10. Have you ever had a drink named after you? If so, where and when and how? If not, what would your drink be?

Poppers!

11. Who do you most admire among the legendary queens who came before you? Who should we know about from our shared past and revere?

I never got to see Charles Pierce, but he seems to have been amazing. I also worshipped Wayland Flowers and Madame. The country wasn't ready for full drag yet so the made that hilarious sissy squat behind a couch and put his hand only in drag. But Wayland's comedy was stellar. I'm also a huge fan of Dame Edna and even love her male characters. The queens currently working that I love are Jackie Beat, Dina Martina, HRH Princess Diandra, Sugga Pie Koko and Shealita Babay.
 
12. How do you want to be remembered long after you’re gone?

Someone who was unique and followed her passion.

OctsnowberFest 2011 (or OctSnowmageddon If You Prefer)

Many of you, I'm sure, hate snow. I love it. I loved waking up this morning and seeing the drizzle turn suddenly into snow and then into a driving, semi-blinding snow!

Unfortunately I had groceries to buy this morning so I had to trek out into it but far from being annoying, it was bracing (I was more annoyed trying to take my own picture! LOL).

Gym, a couple parties and a show are all on the agenda tonight. For those of you who are traveling out and about tonight, keep safe, watch out for the ice and most importantly, have FUN!

An Open Letter to Conan O'Brien Regarding Your New York Return Next Week #teamcoco

Dear Mr. O'Brien,

My name is Will Clark and I have been an Event Manager for the past 16 years raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for LGBT organizations across the country.

Currently I live in New York City and produce a weekly show called (appropriately enough) The Will Clark Show. The show's full title is "The Will Clark Show feat. P*rno Bingo". I imagine that you can imagine what the word with the asterisk is supposed to be!

Conan, I know from your show on That Other Network that you are no stranger to the world of gay porn (I loved the bit you did a few years ago about the mix up between Michael Lucas' La Dolce Vita and the 'real' version) and of course one cannot help but think of the Masterb*ting Bear and Conan as synonymous (yes I went there) so I invite you to join us for one round of calling Bingo numbers on Wednesday November 2nd. I know you're busy with your own show, but I hope that you might have a few minutes to drop by mine. :)

My weekly show is at a gay bar called Pieces which is located at 8 Christopher Street and we play four rounds of Bingo. We're a sort of talk show/variety show/fundraiser hybrid. It's like the Conan show but with daubers.

We're there from 9pm to 11pm and anytime you show up, we'll work you in somehow (I have some pretty fabulous local guests that night including a hot non redheaded stripper named Jay Roth, but they are all very nice people and will cede the floor to you). We give away gay porn as prizes, but also auction Broadway tix off and give away erotic toys.

From one redhead to another, I hope that this piques your interest. We must stick together since redheads are said to be on their way to being extinct. :)

As an added incentive, I can assure you that the drinks at Pieces are truly awesome and the company is even better. I am grateful to have a bar full of really nice wonderful people every week who love coming to play Bingo where 100% of what we raise goes to the LGBT charity of the week.

On November 2nd, the charity will be the Sylvia Rivera Law Project which helps transgendered people afford legal counsel when they come up against discrimination and other issues that after trans people.

Thanks for considering this, Conan, it would be great to meet you and have your help with the cause.

Naturally you can bring Andy too but I can only comp you your drinks (sorry Andy). (kidding!) :)

Last Night at the Will Clark Show and Which FB Profile Pic is Best?

The one where Kylie and I are all PULP FICTION like or the sweeter, gentler where we're squeezing each other for dear life??

Either way, we had a blast at last night's Will Clark Show.. and how could we not? I had four awesome guests (Kylie, Andy Swist and Brian Juergens from Camp Blood. org and our former regular, Amanda who looked stunning in one of her usual incredible outfits!) and two really fabulous costume contest entrants (wait til you see Janet Reno!) and on top of that, auctioned off tix to SISTER ACT, SILENCE THE MUSICAL and the upcoming BONNIE AND CLYDE courtesy of our friends over at NEXT Magazine.

In total, we raised nearly $600 for Our Collective Mental Health, a new org dedicated to helping people afford taking care of their mental health (if you can afford a Bingo card, you can afford a visit to the therapists at OCMH).

The place was filled and DJ Chris Padilla spun great tunes throughout the night... and of course AB took great photos, which will be up very soon, but I wanted to get this posted asap!

Coming soon, Kylie and I will be launching her Rock and Rawhide program through several Bingo nights from late December - the end of February - with weekly spotlights on the hottest musical talents that New York City has to offer! More information soon!

Our Collective Mental Health (OCMHC, Inc) is a new not-for-profit agency in New York and Vermont. Our aim is to provide affordable mental wellness services (psychotherapy, counseling, yoga, massage, life coaching, music therapy, couples therapy, sex therapy) to members of the community who might not have access to these services.

Access might mean lack of insurance coverage or lack of funds. ABOUT ROCK & RAWHIDE

According to the Humane Society 6-8 million dogs and cats are placed in shelters in the USA each year. Of this amount 3-4 MILLION are euthanized. The animals at these shelters suffer extreme stress from the deafening noise levels,  environmental conditions & many other factors in the shelter.

Rock & Rawhide is a program developed to collect donations of toys, rawhides, bully sticks, treats, blankets and other items for dogs and cats placed at Animal Control and other high kill shelters (many shelters do not give the animals these items as they are cash strapped and money could be spent elsewhere). Many organizations raise funds for shelters but we want to ensure the animals directly benefit. Through the USA-wide collection of items at local music gigs, touring bands, DJ events, direct from individuals and more, we will also work to raise awareness of adoption and the importance of quality of life for shelter animals.....even if they only have a few days left...

If anyone wishes to donate items, Kylie Edmond will come and collect them from you, your work place, your friend's place, or anywhere you/they like.
