For 9 to 5ers, Monday aka President's Day is a holiday and so if you want, if you need to get out of the house and dance your ass off Sunday night, there are plenty of opportunities for you to make this February holiday one to remember (or even one to forget and/or not talk about in polite company). :)
First up is a multi-hour dance party at La Poisson Rouge at 158 Bleecker featuring a trio of DJs that will knock your socks off - Evolution of a Dancer starts at 6pm and will cost you $50 at the door (cash is preferred but if you need to use a debit/credit card, they'll charge you a few dollars).
The good news is that this party lasts til the wee hours of the morning and features three incredible DJs including John Ceglia, Michael Fierman and Susan Morabito spinning classics from way back. This is a good party for those of you
who really want to spend the night working up a drenched sweat dancing.Nearby at the Monster is the party that Rich King has made popular - yeah, it's the Snaxx Sunday party (the Friday party at the Westside Tavern is no more... waaah) complete with all the McBeardy's you can handle in one evening.
And for those of us with itch's that just can't be scratched, there's a sort of unofficial 'backroom' (it's more like a seating area but has seen more than its share of action during these parties, I oughta know. <G>). It's also super cheap, $5 or free if you go between 5 and 6 (but the McBeardy's don't start dancing til they've gotten tanked up - so figure on starting to get into the dancing groove by 8ish). Michael T (a super cutie) spins along with DJ Formika.
Finally, I haven't been yet but the Sunday night Griffin parties are supposedly the best dance party night in the city. In addition to be wildly popular (an end in its own for those who want to mix n mingle), I've heard that the music is just incredible - and well, the Griffin guys have an incredible reputation for throwing a good party. It's been going for quite awhile now and shows no sign of abating. Check it out. Tonight they're doing one of their many theme nights - it's the 70s all over again. Starting at 7pm at 50 Gansevoort Street.
Good luck with whatever your plans are tonight - I'm off to spend the day in Connecticut with relatives and will be back late. More bloggety blog blog stuff tomorrow (Monday, Prez Day) and throughout the week.
