OK the title of this piece might be overly snarky but let's be honest, when Andrew Craibe the media director of Australia's Salvation Army is dumb enough to say on the radio that yes he believes that gays and lesbians should be put to death because the SA handbook quotes a passage in Romans, well, you're lucky that "snarky" is all you get from me (and not something much worse).
Here's my suggestion - this holiday season, LGBT non-profits in New York band together to create holiday cards that we can buy and drop into Salvation Army buckets around the city that say the following:
"Dear Salvation Army, Happy Holidays. Back six months ago, around when Gay Pride is normally celebrated around the world you said that you believe that all gays and lesbians should die. Naturally I don't take too well to someone calling for the deaths of millions of people especially when one of those people is ME. I'm funny that way.
"This year I'm taking the money that I would normally have dropped in your bucket hoping to help homeless and hungry New Yorkers and have, instead bought these notecards. All the paper and printing has been donated by LGBT private businesses and the money that's raised from the sale of them, will go to benefit LGBT organizations such as (list, logos, websites). Have a nice day!"
Adding the picture of a hot naked man straddling one of their donation buckets is probably going a little too far but the image is nice to think about isn't it? :)
