Good afternoon peeps - hope you had a great Thanksgiving - mine was non-traditional and fun - my best friend and I drank ourselves silly at New York's hidden treasure, Bathhouse Gin and afterwards we went to CLOUD ATLAS. I thought at first I was drunk which is why I couldn't understand Tom Hanks and Halle Berry in the far far future segment because I'd had too much to drink... but then realized, no they're just speaking shorthand English in a weird dialect that makes it impossible to understand. I think making a high concept art movie is an awesome idea - but if you make it so unintelligible that no one can understand it, then you have a problem. I kind of feel that the message of the flick would have been more effective if they'd just presented each segment staightforward. It's more artful I suppose to juggle stories around - but, like LOST, I feel that it's a trick of a filmmaker who knows the material isn't interesting enough to be presented in a traditional manner. But six dull stories are still dull even if you chop em up and rearrange them. Fail. (On the other hand, it did make me want to check out the book by David Mitchell since it's so highly regarded with it's fans)
But something that never fails - Lord the new Betty Bowers is out and if you haven't seen it, scroll down and take a peek. As usual, Betty has some fun poking holes in fauxChristianity.. this time on it's all about the Evangelicals' obsession with wealth.
My dad's mother used to say that the more money she had in the bank, the higher standing she'd have in Heaven. You know, rather than taking care of my destitute mother after my dad died of cancer and left us basically penniless. Strangely, unlike some of our LGBT brethern, my many negative brushes with fauxChristianity didn't leave me hating God, it simply left me unimpressed with organized religion.
Anyway, next Thursday November 29th I'll be hosting "Night of a Thousand Santas" at the Ritz from 7 to 9. It's Bingo, it's sitting on Santa's lap and, in addition to some fun with guests Witti Repartee and Molly "Equality" Dykeman, you all will get to get the opportunity to chat with XXX legend Jake Deckard.
THEN I'll be Philadelphia on Saturday December 1st emceeing the Liberty Bears' holiday party - there's Santa and music and all sortsa good stuff including a little "Porn Idol" competition (winner gets a little camera time with a Philadelphia-based photographer to use however you'd like). That's from 10pm to 2am at Tabu. More info can be found at the Liberty Bears event page by clicking here.
Take it away Betty!
