Hey at this writing this trailer only has 310 hits which means it's been posted pretty recently.. thanks to Dale for pointing it out for me.
I'm kind of an Oscars-a-holic and even when they're bad, I find them pretty great. Last years crapfest with James Franco and Anne Hathaway was pretty bad but it made for a lively Oscars party where everyone there (a small group of five or six) all got cuts in throughout the evening without being overbearing. Just the kind of party I like.
This year with Billy Crystal and some pretty terrific movies (THE ARTIST, HUGO, etc) it looks to be a good show - although someone will probably get on stage drunk or high and someone else will ramble on .. and those are the moments we Oscar-a-holics live for, aren't they?
Anyway, no matter what else you think of the trailer, it's got Josh Duhamel in it and that makes it pretty damn nice for me (and word to the You Tube commentator who said that this is as close as Duhamel and Megan Fox will ever get to an Oscar).
If the Peanuts gang dancing from A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS doesn't get you into the holiday spirit, maybe the Peanuts gang dancing to "Hey Ya" will. It always works for me.. so if you're already feeling stressed about the season (my holiday stressed peaked a couple days before Thanksgiving, which I think is a new record) enjoy this little video (below). You've probably seen this a couple dozen times over the years but it'll make you feel better than downing a couple drinks (and no hangover).
Enjoy!
PS Shermy (the one in the green) is one of my favorites in this sequence.. although Violet doing some sort of 60s go go dance comes in a close second. :)
This showed up today on Gothamist courtesy of the New York Times - it's the opening number from the upcoming Muppet movie out on Wednesday November 23rd as sung by Kermit and Bret McKenzie (from FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS) who wrote the song. :)
On one hand the past week was kind of great - saw two Broadway shows, had a great Bingo night, had dinner with an old friend and had a great experience at the Players Club off Irving Place, but there was also some family and other stuff that just was kind of awful. I'm leaning towards this upcoming week being better. And this song certainly perked me up tonight - isn't that kind of what the Muppets are supposed to do? Yes, glass half full. So there.
This is an odd little animated short - not really sure what it means, but hey, it's got cute penguins so I thought I'd post it today. :) You can check out the behind the scenes work on this by clicking here.
This is a pretty exciting short and, like many of the shorts I choose to post, the writing and animation make me want to see what this team could do with a larger, longer piece. Enjoy!
Good morning and Welcome! In the tradition of watching cartoons on a Saturday morning, today I present my pic of the week, "Wind Mills", a graduation movie made at Georges Méliès school and directed by Guillaume Bergère, Guillaume Coudert, Maria Glinyanova, Bruno Guerra, Charlotte Jammet.
Simply one of the prettiest animated shorts I've seen in awhile, "Wind Mills" is lush in detail and depth, you can literally feel the arms of the wind mill move past a window. There are days, especially when I turn on the TV and see God awful movies like Disney's "Home on the Range" and think that the golden age of animation is long since gone. Then I see "Wind Mills" and know that in my lifetime we'll experience the true golden age of animation. For if this team is any indication of the quality not just of the art itself, but of the storytelling (we don't need to know why this world has gone dead, we don't need to know why the glowing feathers are being captured, we get that the characters know and that's all that really matters especially when the themes of despair are universal), then we who love animation passionately are in good hands.
Good morning all - today I have a day off AND my roommate has left for a long weekend. After about 14 straight days of work and various back to back committments, I have one glorious day to sit around in my underwear at home, catch up on emails, blogs, tv shows, buy groceries and so forth.
First up, catch this AWESOME kick ass trailer made by fans and submitted into the Swede Fest - a sweded film is a Hollywood trailer recreated by fans. The deadline for this years festival is November 1st, so you still have time to do your own - if you feel that you're up to the challenge!!
Check the sweded trailer first followed by the actual trailer. Good stuff. :)
Over the past few weeks, I've posted some random trailers from the upcoming Muppet movie due this Thanksgiving - oh yes oh yes oh yes! This is going to be awesome if the trailers are any indication (and they're all so different, it's like they'd seem like trailers for different movies if Amy Adams and Jason Segal weren't in all of them). Enjoy! (Thanks to Deadline Hollywood for posting!)
I did not actually sleep with Cam Gigandet, at least not in the reality that you and I actually inhabit, but in my mind, in between knifings and shootings and lusting looks at Nicole Kidman, I spent moments imagining Cam and I doing the I'll Tumble 4 U in my bed on the upper west side. Let me explain.
Yesterday afternoon I was invited to an advance screening of the new Nicolas Cage movie, TRESPASS. For an entry in the suspense/action/crime movie, TRESPASS is a total win - I was on the edge of my seat throughout and it's not usually a genre I like (the last flick that I saw in this genre was THE TAKERS).
It has big names (Cage and Kidman), hot guys (Cam Gigandet and Ben Mendelsohn), the aforementioned knifings and shootings, open drug use, fast cars, a beautiful house that gets trashed, lots of pretty people who all end up dead and/or bloody and even a not so subtle message about the folly of spending beyond ones reach just to 'keep up appearances".
A total popcorn movie from start to finish.
Naturally the room full of critics laughed at various spots (more 'that is so over the top' laughter than 'that was funny' laughter) but audiences will love the thrill ride and the eye candy (did I mention Cam Gigandet whom director Joel Schumacher wisely has walking out of a pool several times throughout the film - not quite as luscious as Daniel Craig in CASINO ROYALE, but still pretty hot). And speaking of hot, actor Ben Mendelsohn will be starring in a movie with Ryan Gosling AND Bradley Cooper. If I wore pearls, I would clutch them.
Afterwards I was at the Flaming Saddles Saloon opening (I can't help but hear Homer Simpson's voice when I type the name of this bar - "I like my homosexuals FLAMING") and it was quite the successful party. There were so many men with tight jeans on that one wonders - does anyone even wear underwear anymore? (uhm not that I'm complaining, mind you) :)
With a comfy country decor that borders but smartly doesn't go over into camp, the bar itself seems like a good place to meet after work - more social than a sexual 'pick up bar' (are there any of those left anymore?), a friendly staff (many of whom took turns to Coyote Ugly their way along the bar several times throughout the evening - "thank God I'm a country boy" was a favorite but I'm sure "Wild Wild West" is coming soon- yay Escape Club!) and a generous mix of people (such as porn Empress of New York Robyn Byrd and her mate Shelly, Ethan and Joey from the Time Out New York staff, Ben Solomon from NEXT, photographer Gustavo Monroy, various past and present members of New York's Gay Men's Chorus, Marti Gould Cummings and Jonathan Lovitz (pictured), the one and only Carrie Fairfield plus Brian Silva the new Executive Director of Marriage Equality New York - Brian reports that the new mission of MENY is to watchdog the current New York state marriage laws, help other states get Marriage Equality and to be on the forefront of dismantling DOMA).
As we left, there was a long line of gayboys chomping at the bit to get in - but it remains to be seen if the theme can sustain itself or not. Although it''s right in the heart of many other venues the question will be, does it have enough of it's own identity to stand out as a destination?
Stay tuned! As for Jonathan Lovitz, man, those arms (there I said it!!)
