Oh what I wouldn't give to have George Takei as a guest on the Will Clark Show feat. P*rno Bingo but I'll just add him to the list of 'wishes' that includes Kathy Griffin, Kristen Johnston, Yolanda Vega and Amy Sedaris.

In any event, George's birthday is just around the corner - but for the man who has survived WW2, traveled the galaxy and is having a really really great 'second act' as an out gay man, what on Earth is there to get for him on his 75th birthday?

Well, maybe nothing BUT you can celebrate with the Geeks Out crowd and get yourself or your geeked out loved ones something - a portrait of the man himself as rendered by several comic book artists including Rob Clarke (a personal favorite of mine). My favorite of the pieces I've seen so far (and you can check them out by clicking here for the Geeks Out website) is the homage to Calvin and Hobbes (I have the 'original' version framed- well one that I tore out of a Calvin and Hobbes calendar anyway! LOL)

The event, TAKEI BACK THE NIGHT on Friday April 20th from 7pm to 10pm at CFAN (417 W. 57th Street, NYC) will celebrate Mr. Takei's legacy on Mr. Takei's actual birthday. You can also submit Takei inspired artwork through the website and pay tribute to the man of the hour!

Will Clark's Journal: Gay Geeks Go Wild at Bingo! #geeksout #willclark

March 14th was a night when the GeeksOut group came out to play with us at Bingo - and we featured Marvel Comics editor Daniel Ketchum (what a cutie!) and drag superstar of New York, Peppermint! I indulged in some super geeky conversation with Daniel about comics (so rare when I get to have a conversation like that :( ) and then got a chance to talk with Peppermint about her recent community event at XL (some people spend their birthday raising money at a bingo event, Peppermint spent hers emceeing a town forum type of event). And yeah, the picture here pretty much sums up the great mood of the night! LOL

It was also DJ Chris Padilla's final night with us. Originally scheduled to be with us for three months back towards the end of 2010, Chris enjoyed the show so much that he stayed on for nearly a year and a half until he decided to leave our fair city for Florida where he has new opportunities awaiting for him. I am grateful for all the great sounds he gave us over the time he spent with us. Best to you, Chris!

GEEK OUT TONIGHT MARCH 14TH AT THE WILL CLARK SHOW

Admitting one knows what PI Day is would be social death any other day, but tonight I'm bringing in the Geeks Out guys for a night of fundraising so it's OK. There'll be a whole bar full of guys just like you and

me who understand that March 14th is referred to as Pi Day (ie 3.14). And if you don't have a clue what I'm talking about when referring to Pi, just drink your juice of the vodka plant and enjoy winning some gay porn.:)

Tonight, I've got two really awesome guests - the one and only PEPPERMINT who is excited about returning to the show (and so are WE) and Marvel Comics editor DANIEL KETCHUM who will talk about all things gay and comic-booky including the newest issue featuring Young Avengers featuring a same sex smooch between two male characters (whom, to be fair, have always been an 'out' couple but up til now have not shared an on-panel kiss). That this is still a big deal is rather lamentable but understandable - we are still starved to see ourselves in our media and guys kissing each other is still a big deal to others so it is of course still a big deal to us.

PLUS, The Saint at Large's Chris will return with fortune cookies (3 for $5) that will go towards Braking the Cycle. The cookies feature either fortunes written by Bianca Del Rio OR passes to the March 23rd Hookies, the March 24th Black Party Expo OR the March 24th/25th Black Party itself! Anyway, I'll have giveaways from ManTagged, Nancy Boy and the usual bags of erotic stuff on hand and of course there's cheap drinks.

On a personal note, I'm sad to say goodbye to our DJ Chris Padilla tonight as he leaves to live in Florida for the forseeable future. Next week, DJ Chauncey Dandridge will join us! More on that in the coming days.

 

Bronx Community Pride Center Brings Community Together for Night of Fundraising at the Will Clark Show #willclark #pornobingo #bronxpride

Just posting this now but the night was timeless - on Wednesday November 16th, adult video star Antonio Biaggi, singer Matt Ryanz and comic book creator Ivan Velez Jr. banded together, joining me as my guests on the Will Clark Show raising over $500 for an incredible cause: The Bronx Community Pride Center.

Velez is a bit of a hero to me - I read his original TALES OF THE CLOSET should be required reading for anyone coming out - they are timeless, fresh and empowering no matter who you are or where you come from. As a comic book lover since I was 10, holding a comic book in my hand with out LGBT characters was all kinds of awesome. So thank you Ivan and thank you for coming on my show! :)

Good Morning Peeps - It's All About the Comic Con Today!

Good morning peeps, I'm spending today, Friday at the NYC Comic Con at the Javits covering the gay angle for EDGE Magazine online - should be fun! I was there getting press cred yesterday and walked by lots of bulked up, testosterone filled guys high fiving each other and tons of others in costume.. and one lone gay couple holding hands. It was very cute.

There's a panel discussion by Geeks Out at 11am this morning on how comics can help LGBT teens feel that "It Gets Better" and as a gay teen who read comics, I certainly can attest to how reading comics (Harvey, then Archie and then DC) empowered me to express my creativity in my art and in my writing. Did you know that for two years I had a comic strip in my local paper back in Wisconsin? Yeah, you learn new things every day. :)

Anyway, if you're at the Con, make sure you grab me for a photo - whatever doesn't make it into the EDGE article will see the light of day here. I'm hoping for some sexy Thors or a big brawny Hulk, I can dream, right?

Geeks OUT Hosts Panel @ ComicCon

“It gets better through comics!”

The goal of Geeks OUT is to get queer nerds out from behind the keyboard to mix it up in the real world. To that end, our first major goal was securing a booth at the 2011 New York Comic Con, an annual event that gathers more than 79,000 fans of comics, sci-fi & gaming. In addition to creating an LGBT-positive space on the convention floor, showcasing the work of queer creators & queer-friendly comics, Geeks OUT will be hosting the discussion panel “It gets better through comics” Friday, October 14, at 11am, in room 1B03. The panel will focus on creating queer-positive comics for younger readers & using comics as a tool for reaching out to LGBT teens in need of a hero.  In addition to the panel, Geeks OUT will be hosting signings with artists & creators from the comic book & gaming industries.  

Geeks OUT was founded in recognition of the ever-growing LGBT presence within the comic book/pop-culture community. The creation of five gay fan boys (Jono Jarrett, Matthew Levine, Keith Marran, Josh Siegel & Joey Stern), Geeks OUT seeks to raise queer visibility within the worlds of comics & gaming & to provide LGBT-friendly spaces (both virtual & real) where geeks & gamers can feel creative, empowered & safe.  Our website, www.geeksout.org, features various articles & a blog focusing on LGBT views on pop culture & the comic book industry. Superhero night at The Will Clark Show! For all you lycra, rubber, spandex enthusiasts, this is your chance to dress up and play Bingo to help LGBT homeless youth!

The night starts at 7pm with artist Andy Swist creating original superhero art with model Torez. Come early to have a drink and watch art unfold in front of you.

Then, at 8pm we play the first of four rounds with XXX flicks from this month’s video sponsor, Channel 1 Releasing! Singer Emily McNamara will join us for a couple rounds to entertain, Torez will stick around to auction off his underwear and Andy will be available to you throughout the show showcasing his incredible art.

Around 9pm we’ll have a little contest to see whose Superhero costume is the best – drink tickets will be the prize!

Fabulous comic book related items we’ll be giving away throughout the night : a copy of gay comics anthology, “Young Bottoms in Love” from Poison Press. Generously donated by the amazing Tim Fish , a set of art cards and self published mini-comic from Andy Swist, an erotic, gay short story called, “Second Chances” written by Dale Lazarov  with art by FoxyAndy , a copy of “Stripped, Uncensored” featuring gay male erotic artists from around the world (including FoxyAndy) and a grab bag of goodies from CampBlood.org: the first and foremost horror website dedicated to viewing the genre from a queer perspective-  included in the horror-related goodies in the mix will be a FoxyAndy portrait of horror himbo (and former Bingo guest) Joe Zaso signed by Joe himself!

No cover and remember to come early – 7pm to witness art being created!!

About Brainpower 

Founded in 1970 by Marshall McLuhan, Andy Warhol, Jackie Curtis and Ben Stock: Brainpower works one-on-one with artists and provides classes in art and business to our students in small groups. In April 2011, it will introduce The Superhero Project, a series of arts classes taught by Ivan Velez, Jr (DC, Marvel, “Tales of the Closet”) and freelance photojournalist Adi Talwar (NY Times Wall Street Journal, Montefiore Hospital) for homeless LGBT youth. The group will create comic book art that will later go on exhibition and sale at LDR Studio Gallery as part of the Bronx Culture Trolley, an art tour.

The SuperHero Project is made possible in part with public funds from the Bronx Council on the Arts through the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program.

Emily McNamara is an actress, singer, dancer and all around funny blonde. Will Eisner celebrated at MOCCA

One of the biggest comic strip creators, Will Eisner (The Spirit), is the subject of two interesting shows at the Museum of Comic Book Art starting today March 1st and running through the spring: the first is a showing of Eisner's New York -taken from a variety of sources, it traces the evolution of his work. Then, as a companion, MoCCA has mounted a collection of Eisner inspired art by top names in the graphic art form from the 1940s to a piece drawn by Jules Feiffer special for this exhibition. Artists represented include (but not limited to) Neal Adams, Sergio Aragones, Joe Kubert, Harvey Kurtzman, Trina Robbins, Al Jaffe, Jerry Robinson, Wally Wood, Joe Quesada.

HEY GAY BOYS, IT'S THE BIGGER CHRIS EVANS PIC FROM CAP AMERICA

As if Chris Evans wasn't hot enough,he's in the new Captain America movie.. and yes I admit I watched him in the dopiest movie ever- a brilliantly named movie called CELLULAR where he has to keep a cell phone call going. for like 90 minutes. Let's not even talk about the improbabilty of battery length, but geez, what cell phone carrier in the world doesn't ever drop a call lasting over three minutes - or am I just jaded because I live in NYC and AT&T drops calls all the damn time?  But really, I don't know that anyone really cared about the plot of that movie or of FANTASTIC FOUR as long as there was a chance that at any moment, we'd see Evans shirtless (FF more than the other movie unfortunately).

Well, it looks like the Hollywood suits have bodied him up even more - certainly not that I'm complaining - oh no! When someone starts bulking up like this their facial features can change and it seems Chris's has filled out considerably but again, not such a bad thing. Is it wrong for me to hope that he's praying that I'll friend him on Facebook? Chris, your brother Scott knows how to find me; all teh gayz know each other - and even though the current trend is thin thin thin, I still like 'em big and muscley so come on over to me and Ill give you something to really get down on your knees about.Those are pecs that only a power bottom would love (to grab ahold of).

Anyway, this pic is form the Movieline site which has a kind of lame-o caption contest. I'm still hung up on the size of his biceps to care about coming up with something funny.. but if I did it would be "when will Will be over to help me take off my shirt?" Like the Flash, dude.

A GREAT DAY TO BE IN NEW YORK

I happen to be up in CT today, seeing a show on Broadway tonight (yay, Albee!) and then upstate for a third and final weekend of landscaping work (and I have the cuts and bug bites to prove it. Fun!) but if you're in New York this weekend and you can't find anything awesome to do, you're really just not trying.

First, there's the New York Comic Con which started yesterday. It's the east coast equivalent to the San Diego event and features the usual comic book companys (soon DC Comics will be mostly located in Los Angeles so enjoy/sleep with your favorite DC staffers while you can!) and pop culture feasts (like the Women of Battlestar Galactic panel). If you think it's just for boys who still live in their parents' basements, you are behind the times - this is a multi-generational, cross platform conference on all things artistic ranging from the written word to pretty pictures from comic books to the latest Hollywood blockbuster. It runs through Sunday.

Tonight, soap star Ilene Krsten and former co-star Kathy Brier are at the Triad with what is I'm sure a fabulous show featuring two awesome divas at their very best in an intimate cabaret setting. You can go to Kathy's website to buy tickets and use discount code FANDF to save. That's at 9:30.

If you're a fan of John Lennon then you know today would have been his 70th birthday. It's hard to believe that he's now been gone 30 years. To commemorate the date, Google has not only dedicated their home page graphic to him but if you click on the graphic, you get a slice of "Imagine" and a little animated short or 'doodle' as they call them. You Tube has also incorporated his image into their logo. 

And if you want to share your night with other Lennonites, Central Park is holding a special screening of the new American Masters documentary "LennoNYC" about John and Yoko's early years living in the city. It's free on a first come/first serve basis at the SummerStage. (No time given on this but presumably at dusk). The show will air November 22nd on PBS (which coincides with another famous assasination, maybe it's a theme night over there). Of course you can also head over to Strawberry Fields and memorialize him there as people do every year for various Lennon milestones.

Finally, this weekend is not only home to comic book fans, soap fans and Beatles fans, but for fans of the gay porn set too as Sunday night features the annual Hustlaball featuring the country's hottest male escorts and, as they say, their admirers. You can go to see whose selling and (more interesting to me) who's buying. Lots of stars are appearing including Alessio Romero (who will be at Bingo on Wednesday), Michael Brandon, Sam Colt and a dozen or so others.

And now just to leave you on a peaceful note, click over here to check out Lennon's 1971 "Imagine" music video... there's like three edits where, in today's world there would be like 3,000... a perfect antidote for this crazy world of ours... 

 

TONIGHT AT STARF*CKER BINGO: GUEST CAROLYN CASTIGLIA

Hey all, tonight is the second installment of my new "Starf*cker Bingo" event at Splash now every Sunday night from 6pm to 9pm! Not only do we have the usual fab prizes - theatre tickets, adult instruction films (ie put your X into this Y) as well as some goofball items (yes we did give away a penis shaped, chocolate scented soap last week, what of it?) but tonight we have a pretty awesome item: a r/t to anywhere in Mexico on AirMexico! Not shabby. Although now might not be the ideal time to head even further into the seasonal hellacious heat, it will come in mighty handy oh when the temp starts dipping and this heat wave is a distant memory. (and if you bring back a new friend, just steer them clear of Arizona, just sayin).

Plus tonight I'll have as a special guest, comic Carolyn Castiglia who is so awesome that a mere bio (below) cannot possibly do her justice, you'll just have to trust me on this one and experience the wonderfulness that is her.

There's free bingo boards, no cover and we have a beer blast - $7 for 10 draft beers. Splash is located at 50 W. 17th Street. DJ Max spins during the event, DJ Ian spins from 9pm onwards with dancing til the wee hours of the night (more than enough time to work off some of those carbs!).

Carolyn Castiglia is a stand-up comedian and freestyle rap star. You may have seen her on Comedy Central's The Atom Show, NBC's Last Comic Standing, Nick-at-Nite's Funniest Mom in America 3, The Maury Show, ABC World News with Charles Gibson and heard her on Sirius/XM Radio. She is perhaps best known for her appearances on VH1/ego trip's The White Rapper Show and Miss Rap Supreme as the lovable and hilarious Miss CKC. Her funny freestyle has won her numerous championship titles at The BEATdown, a monthly showcase at New York's UCB Theatre, where she is also a regular cast member of High School Talent Show. Her solo show BROWN AMBITION premiered at Ars Nova theatre in February 2009. It went on to run Off-Broadway at 59E59 and played for a month at the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. While in Edinburgh, Carolyn was chosen by London-based production company Brown Eyed Boy to film "Laughtershock Worldwide," a television pilot featuring "edgy" stand-ups from around the globe. Three Weeks said, "Carolyn Castiglia was the funniest female comedian I've seen at the fringe." Other festivals and tours include NC Comedy Arts Festival (2010), ImprovBoston Women in Comedy Festival (2009), Obama Girls of Comedy Tour (2008) and the New York Underground Comedy Festival (2004, 2005, 2006).

Carolyn's jokes have been printed in over 50 issues of Life & Style magazine in the Style Slip-Ups section as well as the book, "The Idiot’s Guide to Jokes."
