After the passage of Marriage Equality in NY state just in time for Pride weekend, well, I don't know about all of you, but it all pretty much wiped me out.... thankfully I had booked two incredible guests - Witti Repartee, who can be seen regularly performing with New York's Imperial Court, and author Justin Luke ("Gulliver Travels") who hosts the popular Boi Party.
The place was packed and our rider, Maria, and last week's rider, Frank, were joined by a couple of their friends and when the cards started selling and raffle tickets for a trip to Puerto Rico started to fly, I knew we were in for a special night. It wasn't until there was a huge bidding war for two sets of tickets for PRISCILLA (the Broadway musical of course) that I got really excited.
An anonymous donor threw in $300 and then last week's rider, Frank, rolled his take $1000 into Maria's earning - and then yes, we totaled it all up and of course doubled it (because Maria has a great corporate sponsor) and yes came up with a whopping total of $5000 raised for Braking the Cycle!
Now I'm not really that much of a numbers person.. but it sure does feel amazing to have achieved this already (this is after four BTC nights since Memorial Day; last year we raised just over $7K in the last 8 weeks of the summer, so I think we're -knock on wood- in a good place).
Anyway, Witti was fabulous and Justin talked about his book, we drank and flirted and the night zipped along.. as it usually does. You can see some pics by clicking here (THANKS to AB for some great shots!) although this is one of those weeks where photos somehow don't really do the night justice.. it was one of those nights where you just had to be there to feel the chemistry and the excitement in the air throughout the evening.
