If you're coming into town for New York's Gay Pride (Sunday June 24th) or the Sunday July 8th Bad Boys on the Hudson, you cannot miss the exhibit that's been enjoyed by tons of New Yorkers over the past two months. It was recently extended (again!) to Saturday July 7th so you've got some time, but don't delay, that's just a month away.
The show, "The Piers: Art and Sex along the New York Waterfront" is the first museum exhibition to focus exclusively on the uses of the Hudson River docks by artists and a newly emerging gay subculture in 1970s New York post Stonewall. As everyone knows, the New York Piers are where many gay New Yorkers gathered in the late 1960s and 1970s, playing out new sexual freedoms and becoming the crossroads for an emerging gay subculture and for artists of that period.
