For you, Pride 2012 has been over for a couple weeks, for me, it's only now just about over. And boy is my liver happy. :) But if you can't overindulge during Pride (and summer, and Halloween, New Year's, the month-long birthday celebration and Arbor Day) when can you indulge (I mean, besides summer, Halloween, New Year's, my month-long birthday celebration and Arbor Day?)?
Thankfully, most of the of the over-indulgence was bracketed by fun events that I was knee-deep involved with so I wasn't just hanging around a bar getting liquored up. OK I spent a few hours at the Eagle on the afternoon of Pride doing just that, is that so wrong? ("I just wanna be laahhvvved!")
Pride started out for me on Monday June 4th with a Night at the Bon Soir with the most fabulous Barbra impersonator ever. I wrote about it at the time and you can read it by clicking here. She'll be back later this month and you can find the schedule for her show and buy tickets by clicking here and also check out the lineup for other upcoming Bon Soir events by clicking here on the Spin Cycle website.
Not only does $30 get you a complimentary cocktails (!) but part of the ticket goes to New York non-profits! There is incredible entertainment coming up in the next few weeks - Alice Ripley (the incredibly underrated Side Show), Molly Pope and Kenny Mellman and more!
Later in the week on Sat June 9th, I found myself co-hosting Brooklyn Pride with Ron B as Tina Turner. Ron recently did The Will Clark Show and rocked the house with a couple numbers that set the joint on fire!
It's always fun to co-host with someone so incredibly outgoing that knows everyone in the parade; you meet a lot of people that way.
It's also a challenge, once you've been hosting a very adult weekly Bingo game to find things to talk about on the mic when you can't swear or use sexual innuendo. LOL Having six year olds sitting three feet from you will do that.
We didn't get much media coverage being at the end of the parade, but Ron and I did get interviewed by Profanity Magazine although neither of us swore (well, only to ourselves when trying to manuever the byzantine route to get from our homes to Brooklyn which was made much more difficult by the folks at the MTA who decided randomly to do some route changes and station closings - nothing will eff you up more than that sitting on an F train and seeing that the next stop is "34 Herald Square" for like 20 stops.... yay!)
After the parade was over (a very intense 45 minutes) we wandered into the depths of Ginger's to change out of our sweaty clothes (helloooo EBay). While the bar is awesome, the basement is super grungy and thought that it would be a kind of hot location for a nasty hot scene in a sex movie... yeah right there against the kegger...
On the way out, I danced with a couple hot lesbians to "Empire State of Mind" which always makes my day (both the song and the dancing with lesbians). :)
As we left Brooklyn, I got to watch a couple hot guys in the back of the car paw each other all the way back to Manhattan. The only reason, I think, that most people don't like PDA is that the PDA is not happening to them. I was tired and sweaty so I was just enjoying the show: in the foreground, Ron and her writer friend Larry talking to me about doing The Will Clark Show again in the future.. in the background, borderline porn. Yum. That kind of made my night even more awesome than it already was!
The only downside was that we were so busy being fabulous that we got no pictures of us enjoying the evening.. but then again, we do have the above pics from our May 24th night at The Will Clark Show so that'll have to do. And sometimes you don't need pics to prove that you had a time that was.. well, as Tina might say, Simply the Best. :)
PRIDEPOCALYPSE PART 2 coming up tomorrow!
