For those of you who are Facebook friends, you know that this morning, Wednesday, I found out that my mom had died Tuesday night. I have incredibly complicated feelings about my family especially given much of our shared (negative) history. And part of the complicated part is that my mom and I barely spoke over the past ten years. Whether it was a gay thing or just a 'her' thing (she had some problems as did my brother and sister that I chose to leave our sleepy Wisconsin town for the big city) I'll probably never know. There is much sadness not just over the actual loss but the loss of the wonderful, charismatic woman that I grew up with. I think she died in 1981 when my dad did.. but it took 31 years for her body and mind to catch up.
In any event, with all of this rumbling around my soul, I think it's better for me to be at Bingo Thursday night than for me to sit at home and stare at TV. I also have jury duty Thursday during the day - who knew that jury duty would actually be a kind of relief? LOL
If you are in New York, I hope you will consider coming on down and playing a round or four. I have a packed schedule of awesome guests - Empress Witti Repartee and Emperor Ritz Kraka from the Imperial Court, XXX star Max Ryder, author Justin Luke (GULLIVER TAKES MANHATTAN) and singer Amber Martin who is doing a show at Feinsteins next Wednesday September 26th - plus DJ Big Ragoo will guest DJ. We'll have Cockyboys porn, ID Lube and much more to offer up as prizes including two tickets to the last Sea Tea of the season featuring DJ Robbie Leslie (Sunday September 23rd).
And the charity we're raising funds for is the Imperial Court's Bailey House Thanksgiving fund - 100% of the money we raise will go towards making sure that homeless people with AIDS get a hot meal on a day when family is paramount. For those of us who are actual or spiritual orphans, I can relate to wondering where I'm going to go every Thanksgiving and Christmas. Let's help people who are really in a critical state find a good warm meal.
And if you want to make a significant donation to make this day happen, please contact Witti Repartee through her Facebook page and let her know you can help.. and then give her some sugar.. the lady has been working her ass off this year and deserves some props and snaps for all the incredible work she does.
