Good afternoon, peeps!
As we get into the final two weeks before the election, everyone's feeling the burn of worry about the outcome. Tonight's final Presidential debate ought to be good but I've got a show to go to and then will be heading over to Pieces' new midtown bar, Hardware. I was in the venue just a little over a week ago and it's really been gorgeously created. And they've got a full slate of entertainment all ready to go courtesy of entertainment director, Shequida. Yes, THAT Shequida. Girl is getting respectable (wink) :)
Anyway, today is the first anniversary of the first wedding that I worked on as an event manager. For those of you who dont know, for the past year, I've been working in the wedding industry specializing in same sex ceremonies. I've assisted, planned, managed and officiated at a dozen weddings in the past 12 months. And two more on the way before the end of the year. And although creating this work from scratch has been as tough as it is for anyone starting out in a new field, it's been worth it. To be able to join two people in love, well, it's an incredible honor so far and look forward to many more opportunities in the next year. :)
For those in Washington state (as well as in Minnesota, Maine and Maryland) November 6th will not only be about the President, but about deciding if their state will get Marriage Equality. As usual, there is fierce debate in all of these places and thankfully those of us in the LGBT community don't have to fight this alone. Our straight allies are joining in. In the video below, Daniel Hanks shows his naked support for this cause as he traipses all over Seattle.
You don't have to go to such lengths of course but if you live there, make sure everyone you know knows how to vote FOR Marriage Equality - I'm convinced that many times when we have to vote "no" to vote FOR something, people get confused and the message gets lost.
If you are unemployed or underemployed or retired and have time on your hands, please consider joining the 20 Million More phone bank. Marriage Equality has been working their butts off to get the word out.
If you are working and unable to contribute your time, consider making a tax deductible contribution. :)
Drop me a note at willclarkworld at gmail dot com if you want to find out more about hiring me as an officiant and/or wedding planner for your upcoming nuptials. (And yes, in case you're wondering, I officiate in a suit. LOL I'm happy to officiate in assless chaps, but that will be extra!) <wink>
