As most of my friends know, I am a huge comic book fan and my taste has always veered towards DC Comics' characters than Marvel's. So I was really excited when I happened on the current exhibit at the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle the other day and discovered an exhibit featuring DC Comics hero artwork. There's also a Kia that has been Batmanned in the ground floor lobby. It's all to get people aware of the worst draught in 60 years in the Horn of Africa and how you, yes YOU, can make a difference by doing very little. Simply text HEROES to 80888 to donate $10. DC Comics (aka these days as DC Entertainment) will match donations up to $1 million and 75% of the purchase price of We Can Be Heroes products. Click on http://www.WeCanBeHeroes.org/DarknessAndLight for more info.
The exhibit itself is an eclectic mix of photos of starving children and really neat super hero art including "Sunday Morning in Front of La Salle De Justice" by Ray Taira which stays faithful to the Worlds Greatest Heroes even while casting them in a Seurat homage.
For those comic book lovers who just can't get enough after the NY Comic Con at the Javits this weekend, this is something to make a few minutes for. The exhibit closes tomorrow, Sunday October 14th (open from 11am to 7pm tomorrow and is still open tonight til 9pm). And best of all, it's free (on the second floor).
Earth needs heroes - and you yourself can be Africa's very own super man or wonder woman.
