This was a tough night as it followed the day I found out that my mom had passed away. There was some talk with friends that I shouldn't do the show but I couldn't think of anything less dreary than sitting around my apartment that night staring at the ceiling wishing I was occupying myself with, well, anything.
The night was going to be benefiting the New York Imperial Court and Empress Witti and Emperor Ritz and featuring author Justin Luke and Cockyboys stars Max Ryder and Jake Bass... and so there was going to be all sorts of talent to have fun with - plus DJ Chauncey and AB had to miss the night for work things, but fortunately DJ Big Ragoo was going to spin and my other friend Fraz was going to take pics for the night.
I walked in and was kind of a zombie trying hard to be Bright! Shiny! Happy! but various friends were there waiting for me to console me after hearing the news. It was almost more than I could handle at the moment... if I could just get through without tearing up in public, I'd be OK (but my loving friends were making it difficult for me!! LOL) :)
Anyway, thanks to all my guests that night - Witti performed a number live (and consoled me like a good friend does), Ritz was all regal like, Justin brought galleys to give away of his sequel to his GULLIVER TAKES MANHATTAN book, and Max Ryder from Cockyboys brought his hottie friend Jake Bass along to talk about their Project Go Go Boy videos (trailer below) which feature a sort of behind the scenes reality show. Everyone had great enthusiasm throughout the night and the youthful effervescence of Max and Jake in particular helped me feel a little less old (and mournful) than I did at that point. I see now why middle aged guys like really young guys - it helps to be reminded what we were like before the layers of life seasoned us into the people we become.
