Good morning peeps! Hope you had a GREAT weekend!
It's only 42 days til January 1st, 2013 and this year, for some reason, I'm finding myself pushing ahead into 2013 already. Typically I get as wrapped up in the holiday season in New York as much as the next person. But because this has been a <ahem> challenging year, I've kind of decided to pass by everything Thanksgiving and Christmas related and am moving on like light speed ahead to the new year.
So it was kind of a cool thing when I discovered Commitment Day - a growing national movement to create a healthy New Year's Day event whereever you are. Check out the site and even if you're not in a city that's doing the 5K run or just want to do something else, think about using the opportunity not just to think vague ("I want to lose weight") but to map out some concrete goals for your 2013.
Actually I challenge you to start now because you really don't have to start on January 1st. November 19th is also a good date (and that way by the time New Year's rolls around, you're already six weeks into whatever healthy goal you've set for yourself).
Anyway, whatever you decide to do, make sure you have a plan in place for taking care of yourself in the upcoming holiday season - for those of us without family, it's easy to get sucked in to depression and some not great behavior .. but take a couple hours now to set up a network of friends and meet-up dates sprinkled throughout the next six weeks as a way of fending off the creeping lonliness that so often comes with this time of year.
I might also suggest that you start now to make a list of the things you're thankful for - so often at the holidays it's easy to get sucked into the mindset of 'my life sucks' but I think if you start listing the things you're grateful for, you have more ammunition to fend off those feelings.
I'll be here on this blog throughout the holidays so feel free to check back in for the latest and greatest updates from the World of Will Clark. :)
