Good afternoon peeps!
Hope you are all well in this holiday season - here in New York, the annual weekend of frenzy is in full force. I was doing some shopping today and it's a kind of odd combo - the city has started to empty out
as folks go on their way to their holiday destinations and the ones who are left are doing their last minute panic shopping. Some day (and I say this every year) I'm going to go work somewhere out of the city from Thanksgiving to New Years (or til Valentines Day).
On the other hand, if I'd done that this year I would have missed our big 400th show the other night at the Ritz - which was spectacular to say the least. Candy Samples, Kylie Edmond and Lucas exclusive Vito Gallo all gave great show and we raised quite a bit of money for the Gay/Lesbian Anti Violence Project (thank you Andrea and Carlos for being such great liaisons from one of my favorite orgs!). Thanks too to our fabulous Mrs. Claus who helped us out in A.B.'s absence and of course to our always great DJ Chauncey Dandridge. And wow, so many friendly faces - Evan, Tony, Terry, Roger, Mark, Eugene, Daniel, Brent and Seth and a few dozen other fab folks made it one of the most memorable nights ever.
And yes, I did sing. I think I last sung something solo in public in oh, about 1995 when I took the lead in a musical comedy at Wings Theatre (now closed, but used to be located in the basement of the Archive Building on Christopher Street). Somehwere along the way of doing porn, I developed a kind of fear of singing in public due in part to not wanting to be perceived as one of those porn stars who think they can sing. There are a couple of guys in the industry that actually are great singers (for example, Colton has a great voice and had a singing career before he did porn), but most of those that try to go in that direction are just kind of .. uhm not very good (although I'm probably the only one who loved Jeff
Stryker's "Pop You in the Pooper" from oh, about ten years ago). I don't see this as a big career move for me, but more as a one more thing that I can do and will get more and more confident about the more I do it (like emceeing. the first couple times I did it, I was scared out of my mind.. but soon it became second nature).
I'll have pics up in the next couple days (cross your fingers) but in the meantime, you can enjoy the two pics above - the pic of Kylie and I is by Matt from Skywriting Media and the other is courtesy photographer Monroy. I'm not sure what I'm saying in the pic but I believe I'm making a joke about the title of the movie, THE POWER OF LOVE (Lucas Entertainment) and something about the 80s Huey Lewis song - but after a particularly strong vodka/cran early in the evening, I could be saying just about anything. :) Looking at it now, it's kind of an Archie Bunker face, isn't it? LOL
Since I'm under the weather, going out tonight is probably a bad idea but if you're one of those who is sticking around and who don't have the sniffles (or coughing your lungs out - and ironically I quit smoking on December 1st) then you and your own peeps should go to the Saint at Large's new "Nightmare Before Xmas" event happening tonight Saturday December 22nd at Le Poisson Rouge down on Bleecker Street here in New York. It's being touted as the Halloween event that was stolen by Hurricane Sandy although I'm pretty sure most of us need no real reason to go to a Halloween themed Xmas event! Because to me that sells itself! :)
Performances and dancing all night long by folks like Joey Arias and "a parade of grotesque guests" (no judgement, just quoting the website) I'm crushed I can't make it, because I've been looking forward to it for weeks. But whattamIgoingtodo? Blowing my nose is not exactly a turn on for most guys (although dear Lord, I'm sure there's some fetish group out there that would be into it).
There are still a couple tix that you can pick up for a mere $35 by clicking here.
Whatever you're getting yourself into this weekend, make sure you stay safe, dress warmly and have some fun after a too turbulent year!
