Like after our March 6th show, singer Matthew Hashimoto, who had just sung a kick ass piece in the main part of the bar for Bingo, belted out Adele's "Someone Like You" for an admittedly sparse crowd after the regular show... but we were all extremely appreciative. You know, it's one of those common bar things where you're talking while someone's performing and at one point, you realize that you're in the presence of greatness... and at that moment, it was a jaw dropper for sure. I mean, I know Matthew is talented but it's nice to be reminded.. again and again ...(and of course everyone at the Apollo Theater knows he's uber talented as they voted him the winner of the Amateur night at the 2012 show last November.... you know, The Apollo.. as in "A Night at The - " Yeah. THAT Apollo and THAT Amateur night.) Here's Matthew performing the song AT the Apollo a year ago ... can you imagine being in a small cabaret room and hearing this brilliant rendition? And yeah, for those that heard it at Charlies, not a dry eye in the room, because as SNL proved, this is just not a song that you can stay dry eyed for).
No less awesome was our other performer of the night, Nicholas Park who had to sing and run to HIS Wednesday night show at XES but performed his ass off before he left (and what an incredible performance it was).
Thanks to XXX stud Sam Colt who nearly ripped through the shirt he was wearing - at 210lbs of massive muscle, Sam's training hard for a big bodybuilding show later on in the year. Now he's on a gaining cycle and will rip up as the contest gets closer. If you're looking for a better body, Sam trains folks specializing in people with HIV.
In an earlier blog post, I wrote about the passion that each org brings to Bingo and it was my honor to raise some much needed funds for one of my New York favorites - Rock & Rawhide run by my very good pal, Kylie Edmond and her husband Sean-Patrick.
Rock & Rawhide, saves shelter animals from being put to sleep by helping to create a better living environment for them to live - happier dogs and cats with fresh toys and blankets thus making them more adoptable. So far, they've collected hundreds of thousands of toys from pet stores and concert drop off boxes.
Plus in addition to lots of awesome guests, vouchers for month-long memberships to Naked Sword.com, we celebrated my 49th birthday with some terrific cupcakes (thanks to Manny and the Uncle Charlies staff). Oh and at our "after the show" event, I was sung to by our photographer AB (You can check out the free gallery by clicking here ) which was a pretty great way to round out the birthday celebration!
