Good morning peeps - although I'm working what might be my most grueling job yet, Im happy to be doing something that I am actually good at and well, just working period. And at least there are perks - last night I was at a party where Jon Bon Jovi performed live. I have to admit that I'm a bit of a fan and was kind of starstruck (or am I not supposed to admit that being a gay man in the big city?).
Anyway, tonight I've got a great big show planned fo you and hope you're able to come on out and have some fun with us - we'll be raising funds for singer Terry Christopher's Wisconsin AIDS Ride - Terry always brings fun prizes to giveaway and I think I heard him say something about a basket of vodka. I guess we'll find out. Terry and I have been pals for years and he always brings a good crew of friends to play and have fun throughout the evening.
Plus, my guests are some of my favorite New Yorkers - the singing duo of Fein and Dandee who will be accompanying Boylesque star Matt Knife on two sexy strips. Matt produces (and now sometimes emcees!) his monthly "Homo Erectus" Boylesque shows at Stonewall. <!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:"Times New Roman"; panose-1:0 2 2 6 3 5 4 5 2 3; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:auto; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:50331648 0 0 0 1 0;} @font-face {font-family:Arial; panose-1:0 2 11 6 4 2 2 2 2 2; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:auto; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:50331648 0 0 0 1 0;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:""; margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-parent:""; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} @page Section1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.25in 1.0in 1.25in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} -->
About the Wisconsin AIDS Ride
The AIDS Ride concept was conceived nearly 20 years ago as a way to build community, challenge people, and raise needed money for this cause.
There have been numerous rides since then in cities all across the United States. The Midwest Rides began with the Heartland AIDS Ride, a 500-mile ride from Minneapolis, through Wisconsin, to Chicago. Over 1,200 riders raised money and participated in this event. In 2002, volunteers and staff at AIDS Network decided to produce a ride that would keep the donations and route more local in order to maximize the return of funds to AIDS Network's service area. It was named AIDS Network Cycles Together (ACT).
The ACT Rides have met their goals. Over the course of ten ACT Rides, over 1,100 riders and 650 crew have traveled through small towns and cities all over southwestern Wisconsin, spread the word that AIDS continues to affect our state, and raised more than $2.5 million. An incredible average of 85% of funds have gone directly to AIDS Network and the services that they provide.
