We're all waiting breathlessly for the Supreme Court decision on DOMA today, scheduled to be released at 10am... and there is, as you know, lots of fervor surrounding this issue for our community.
For me, born in 1964, I never thought that I'd see same sex marriage become legal anywhere in my lifetime much less in a significant amount of world society. Not that I'm complacent, but, it's hard not to look at all that we do have and think, 'you mean we could have MORE?" When you've been starved for a long time, even a celery stalk feels like a banquet (and btw most poor suckers are starving). And yet of course we cannot put down our metaphorical swords just yet - we still have a tremendous amount of work to do to get us to a place of full equality. And while you can't legislate good will, you can establish laws that both acknowledge the support that we already have and pave the way for more acceptance down the line.
So, today we will weep in defeat (again) or will cheer in success (again) ... and if there is good news from the Court this morning, we'll converge at Stonewall to cheer and celebrate, just like we did two years ago when Marriage Equality was passed in New York state. And, afterwards, I'll be leading a night of "Porno Bingo" at Uncle Charlies starting at 9pm to raise funds for the Gay Football League - featuring the talented Ari Kiki and XXX stud Drew Sumrok who'll have some Ray Dragon dvds to give away as prizes - and a smelly jockstrap that'll go up for auction. What better wedding present to give to a couple of your just married friends than a used porn star jock? (You won't find that in the bridal registry at Macy's).
As always, we're at Uncle Charlies from 9pm to 11pm. Charlies is located at 139 E. 45th St. between Lexington and Third. There's no cover, we've got cheap booze - and even cheaper men. Come on by and celebrate or commiserate - I'll see you there and then!
