So... yes it's taken a long time to get around to posting the pics from the July 14th 2013 Bad Boys on the Hudson. Sometimes good things have to wait .. and besides, pics from other photogs were up even before the party was over ... so isn't it nice to have this gallery as a kind of reminder of warmer days?
And... no, in response to the snarks who joked that they are looking forward to next year's "11th and Final", I can say that you'll be waiting a long long time.
Look, I love the Bad Boys parties - I loved the ten I produced in Los Angeles/Palm Springs (the originals!), the three Burlesque shows I produced in San Francisco (they didn't make money, but creatively, they were some of the best shows I've ever done) and the ten Bad Boys on the Hudson here in New York. But, at some point, one just has to move on to different projects.
I think the reason that there's a kind of doubt that this summer's event will indeed be the last one is because I'd announced that a previous party would be the last one. I was a little burnt out and needed a change.. but then my friend Michael Brandon agreed to do the party and I had to do one more.. and it's real hard to say 'no' to Michael. He bats those blues and you just want to say yes to anything. :)
What I will remember most about the New York parties is watching it change from what I wanted it to be (basically, a reproduction of the LA/PS parties) to it's own individual event with it's own identity and own followers. I guess it's like having children - you just never quite know how they are going to turn out - and what you expect and what you get are two different things. And you can sit and be frustrated, or you can join the ride. And I joined this ride early on.
I am very grateful to the amazing talent that joined me for this year's cruise - particularly our two porn stars, Drew Sumrok and Collin Stone, who provided a very sexy/nasty show :)
Then there were our three Boylesquers - "Homo Erectus" producer Matt Knife and performers Lewd Alfred Douglass and Brooklyn Irons, pushing the envelope for what great erotic performances can be.
Emcee Witti Repartee and former Mr. Eagle, Arsenio, kept the night moving and DJ Jonny Mack provided an amazing soundtrack worthy of a finale.
Thanks to you all for bringing all your amazing talents to help us raise funds for Cycle for the Cause. And a weecap of the night wouldn't be complete without mentioning four other very special people who have been instrumental in making ten years of Bad Boys happen:
The legendary Rollerena - who has joined us for many parties (and many Bingos) over the years, presiding over the crowd like the graceful and beautiful queen (or is it Dame?) that she is. Thank you Witti, for acknowledging her from the stage and giving her a moment to talk. She is an inspiration. :)
Sea Tea producer Michael Fesco - who has helmed these summer parties for a couple of decades and despite lots of technical problems last summer and lots of upper management problems this year, carried on throwing the party week after week. The Sea Tea was the perfect place for the New York version of Bad Boys and the memories of our annual party there will stay with me always.
Barbara, the good witch - at least she's been good to me! LOL :) Barbara has helped me out every year of the party wrangle porn stars and other folks and makes sure that I have had a drink in my hand on more than one occasion when she sees something happen that she knows I'm going to be on the warpath about. There's nothing quite like having an old friend around who knows you inside and out. Vera Charles handing a drink to Mame, yes that's kind of close.
And speaking of an old friend, finally, there's my photographer, AB who has been shooting my events for ten years this February. Week in and week out at Bingo, for several of the Porn Idol events and for many of the Bad Boys on the Hudsons. I wouldn't want to do an event without AB; he brings so much to my shows and to my life, I can't even imagine doing these things without him. Thank you, old friend.
And thanks to all of the wonderful friends, colleagues, fans etc who came to one or more of the 23 Bad Boys parties over the years. It's been an honor and a pleasure to entertain and serve you all.
I look forward to seeing you at upcoming weeks of P*rno Bingo and when I guest host "Homo Erectus" again on Thursday, February 13th (the annual "My Furry Valentine" show). Photo in middle of blog from photographer Jason Russo. He took the photo from above and we have a picture of him from our vantage point in the gallery.
