Usually Bingo photographer AB strives to get pics of all the guests in a given show and I like to do my best to give everyone as close to the same amount of posted pics as I can... but for this show's gallery, I am sorry Gusty Winds, but there were only a couple good ones of you.....
True, Gusty was hilarious as always and chatted non-stop during the show. She always amuses me and any crowd she's with. It's also true that Gusty has, on more than one occasion, shown up even though she didn't feel well or had to be up in the morning - because a true professional - and a true legend - keeps their word and comes when they have promised.
I have truly been honored to share the mic with her so many times over the years. (I'm going to stop there because Gusty will probably hate that I'm being so mushy).
As you can tell, I'm a big Gusty fan. And I have been since before she did my show and will be for a long time after Bingo has finished.
And then there's Drew Sumrok. I only met Drew about a year ago and he appeared at the last Bad Boys on the Hudson and at three of Bingo's but he's made a lasting impression and I'm glad that he could be a part of our little Bingo family. And over and above his obvious charms, Drew has a heart and has been willing to give of himself to better others. And that's pretty damn sexy in my book.
The final round of this evening was called by Gay Geeks leader, Chris, who has been a Bingo regular for many years and, over the past year, has provided a lot of support to me personally and professionally. He sorta deserves a medal for managing my sometimes exhausted, emotional self and while he's probably reading this rolling his eyes, you should know that he's really an amazing, bright, caring man who I'm proud to call friend.
And I'm kinda glad that we could raise a little money for the Gay Geeks - an organization that anyone who loves pop culture should be thrilled to belong to. The group provides some much needed social lubricant for those whose interests can sometimes seem arcane ... but those of us who love our minutiae appreciate each other. What other group would know who Marshall Rogers is and be able to follow a conversation explaining why he's better at writing Batman than Frank Miller (and yes I actually believe this .. it's heresy but there you go). Speaking of Batman, thanks to the private donor who sent us a Batman Black and White and the Batwoman statues to use as auction items. :) The Geeks kept the Batman to auction off at another night - and Chris bid on and won the Batwoman statue and gave it to me as he knew I was coveting it. Well, she is a lesbian after all!
On top of all of that, we celebrated our bartender Manny's birthday - Manny has been such a great presence at Bingo over the years, even when he wasn't our bartender. But I'll get to Manny before the end, I promise.
With the end of the night, we entered into our final month, and had finished our fourth to the end show.
You can see pics from the night by clicking here ... and, as mentioned above, the photographer is AB.
