As we say in Wisconsin, last night, a good time was had by all. I think that they say that about me too, but I digress.
Good morning, Peeps, hope you're surviving ... well, it's winter and it's supposed to be cold and snow in winter. I guess we all just forgot that this is how winter actually is - not those many mild winters we've had recently where it sort of gets cold and snows little once in awhile.
Anyway, last night we returned to Uncle Charlies on a triumphant note raising $560 for Cycle for the Cause! It was funny to walk in as if a year hadn't happened. I felt a little like Dolly Levi returning to the Harmonia Gardens, although Louis Armstrong was not there to sing to me as I arrived. Instead I got Bingo regulars Erica, Tony and Evan greeting me, singer and Rock and Rawhide creator Kylie Edmond, my best friend Matthew (who happened to be in town from San Francisco), Kevin and a couple of others with familiar faces. Not all the old crew made it out last night but I figure that they'll show up next week for my big birthday night (Wednesday March 11).
Arsenio amused the crowd by reading Scruff profiles and finding someone in the audience who was multi-tasking - playing bingo while cruising online. The guy, Richard, was a good sport about it (and I hope he got lucky in the end). Then, Beardonna did a couple numbers and was as usual, hilarious and entertaining and then he too sat down to call a round with me. And yes, he almost fell over! Poor Madge!
My best friend (I have two, this is the best friend whom I've not been in a relationship with) Matt was in town and we had dinner and then he called the last round with me and then AB when I had to get up to take care of a matter at hand (introducing myself to the uber cute Julio in the back of the room was atop of my priority list. I'm sorry, my friends, but papa has to keep reaching for the stars - although a friend told me that at my age I have to start lowering my expectations when I'm looking to get laid. I'm not sure if that's possible, because where men are concerned, they're already fairly low to begin with). :)
The Cycle for the Cause rider, Anthony, and his Team Eagle friend, Dan (who came up all the way from Philly to join us.. what a star!!) raised $260 which was then matched by one of my very favorite people in the world to get us to that $560 mark. THANK YOU!!!!
Then, from out of nowhere, Manny our bartender, produced a cake for AB's birthday. Now AB's birthday was on January 21 but since we weren't doing a show then, it had to be now. Not the latest we've celebrated his birthday, but still notable in the annals of birthday celebrating.
Thanks to Manny for pulling this all together at the last minute and thanks to the whole Uncle Charlies crew who made the whole team feel welcome!
You know, I thought doing another show after Final Bingo last year would feel weird. I was worried that it would somehow take away from the spectacle and impact of that final night - but mostly it felt normal and like 'going home'. I don't think this portents me starting this up on a weekly basis but I sure am glad I've got two more to do on the 11th (we're celebrating my birthday) and the 18th (we're celebrating Manny's birthday) before we hibernate again for God knows how long.
Check back here towards the weekend for info about the March 11 lineup!
