Hope you all had a great weekend - mine was spent wrestling with deliveries and a back injury but I did get out and about outside for a lot of the weekend. I had five days off and tomorrow I go back into the inferno known as my job. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for a good job where I actually accomplish something of personal value on a regular basis, but oh my God, some days the bullshit just gets to me.
I know everyone seems to have a work life like this but as someone who has only been in the thick of it for the last two years - I am filled with genuine admiration for those of you who have survived the corporate America bullshit on an ongoing basis for your entire adult lives. Kudos to you.
Every day I'm there is simply more validation that I made exactly the right choices with my life as a performer, emcee, writer, event producer, fundraiser in the adult industry, the wedding industry and in children's theater (long long ago but still fondly remembered). It's kind of a gift to be able to come to that realization, right? I mean, the money was terrible, but I felt as though I made something of lasting value.
Anyway, when my boss told me recently that we weren't really doing business trips this summer (even though last year we were on the road non-stop) I took the opportunity to sign myself up for a few weeks of Bingo (Wednesday, June 3 - August 5) and to offer to help out my friend Shane with the first ever Bear weekend on Fire Island (June 5, 6, 7). So, you are the beneficiary of corporate bullshit. I guess there is a silver lining anyway. :)
Gusty Winds will be my first guest at the June 3 Bingo night and we'll be raising funds for AIDS Ride South Africa from 8pm to 10pm. Join us for a great night! That's at Uncle Charlies (139 E. 45th Street between Lexington and Third, next door to the Chef's Surprise.)
Then, on Saturday, June 6, I welcome contestants for the First Fire Island Bear Contest from 8pm to 10pm at Cherrys. I'll have three judges headed up by ex-HX columnist Bambi Sue's partner, Killer, who is a giant teddy bear and much friendlier than his name suggests. :)
My second judge is Beardonna, a P*rno Bingo regular - just think of him as my Arlene Francis - will also be on board and will perform one of his scatalogical song parodies. Are you bear enough, for Beardonna?
Rounding out the panel will be Cherrys resident rising star, Vita Summers (pictured, right). Vita started out in the Dallas theater scene - playing Suzanne Sugarbaker in Jame Morris' "Re-Designing Women" and in the Dallas production of "Pageant". A fixture at JRs, she was recently crowned Miss Texas All American Goddess at Large 2015. She sings live and will also do a number during the show.
I have two contestants so far and hope that we can add YOU to the roster of men vying for the $100 cash prize! Email me via my Facebook page if you have questions or simply sign up via the contest website and we can iron out your questions via email.
I'm planning on getting rid of my cable tomorrow and it's going to be a few days until my new internet provider is set up so I won't be back on line until Saturday or Sunday. I'll see what you send then and in the meantime, have a safe, fun start to your summer!
